When You Feel Like Running

I wanted a white vase, so I spray painted white over my shiny Goodwill find. I must not have prepped well enough as the white paint began to chip off around the edges after a while. The chipping didn't look much like shabby chic or farmhouse decor or anything nice so the vase was relegated to the closet. Recently my husband got a hold of it. He sanded the vase down, added a little texture fixing where the chips were jagged and sealed it. Voila! I have an amazing vase now! We all want to be a conqueror, but we don’t want anything to conquer.” - Joyce Meyer That stings my heart a bit. Oh, how my actions, more often than not, reflect this statement. I want to learn, grow and conquer until I have to, then I grumble and fight it. I wanted a new vase until it became…

Are You Feeling Out Of Sorts?

My home is a work in progress as I am. I enjoy re-doing things, so it is awesome that we moved into an older home with a lot to re-do. Or that is what one would think, right? The problem: I do not like things looking undone or half put together. If you are “re-doing” with time constraints and a limited budget, then you will have a lot of undone’s or not yet started projects. That is reality. Learning to be content with undone’s and half-done’s while keeping motivated to continue with one project at a time and actually finishing the one, before starting another, is not always easy. So I am still peeling wallpaper in the kids bathroom as I get time. It’s taking sooooo long and the bathroom looks like a fight broke out in it. Patience, oh patience and time where art thou? And why do I…

So Not A Green Thumb And Parenting Is Not Easy Either

Purchasing hanging planters to put flowers in can be risky at my house. I confess, I often kill living green things. See I have this love-hate relationship with living greens. I love the way they look, but I often can't remember whether I've watered them or not, or if they have had enough sun or not. This California born chic now lives in the south. Spring comes early, last only a few days and morphs straight into hot, long summer days that stick beyond their welcome. With the heat, my interest in all things outdoors wanes fast, unless I'm at the beach or swimming in a pool. Let’s just say plants are not my natural gifting in life and humid, hot weather is not my forte. You can imagine my excitement when plants not only survive me but experience growth in spite of me. When they thrive, I can usually count…

Shut Your Eyes To Chaos And Fear

I shut my eyes just as my son pulled the car out into oncoming traffic. He took off and there was nothing I could do, short of screaming, which would have been disastrous. So . . . I shut my eyes, clinched the door handle, and prayed. Funny how I think that if I close my eyes, that maybe . . . just maybe, what is happening will be less traumatic or dramatic or maybe it will disappear. There is truth snuggled in between these silly thoughts of mine. Shutting my eyes gives me an opportunity to stop staring at what I see. Yeah, there are times I just need to take a pause. You? There was no screeching or crunching of metal that day, but my blood pressure may have come close to exploding. My son pulled out of the grocery store parking lot. The truck that looked as…
